What is the distance between Seignosse, Hossegor and Capbreton?

The three towns are neighbours. Hossegor is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Seignosse, and Capbreton can be reached in under 15 minutes, depending on where you’re starting from. Regular buses run between the towns. We recommend following the cycle paths and cycling there!

Can you go for a swim in Hossegor Lake?

Yes, Hossegor’s marine lake has several well-maintained beaches that are lifeguard-supervised in summer. It empties and fills with the tides; there are no waves, so it’s often a safe haven when the sea is too rough, particularly for children.

Where can I find the fish market?

It takes place every morning and at the end of the day when the 20 fishing boats return. It is situated at the entrance to the harbour, just before the Estacade. Here you’ll find the catch of the day, which varies with the seasons: hake, squid, sole, monkfish, sea bream and sea bass are the fish most commonly caught along our coastline.

You can wander from one to the next along the beaches without even realising it. You can reach them by bus, bike or car in just a few minutes. Yet each of these three towns has its own distinct character:

There’s a frenzied shopping atmosphere in the town centre with its big-name boutiques, and a ‘California spirit’ vibe for surfwear and the shops in the Pédebert area… And above all, a salsa atmosphere for the big Latinossegor festival in September. It’s not uncommon to spot a few celebrities there, visiting incognito with their families.

Hossegor is best explored on foot or by bike, taking in the beautiful villas with their Basque-Landes architecture, particularly along the edge of the golf course, around the marine lake, and its famous canal linking it to the port of Capbreton.

The town nestles around the lake, a haven of tranquillity at low tide. Then, as the tide comes in, the whole place comes to life. You’ll come across a jumble of people: divers, swimmers, stand-up paddlers, canoes, dinghies and early-morning joggers.

OYSTERS FROM LAKE HOSSEGOR

Grown in Hossegor’s marine lake, these oysters form part of the local culinary heritage. Raised in a unique environment, where fresh and salt water meet, they develop a subtle flavour that delights lovers of seafood.

Throughout the year, the oyster huts dotted around the lake invite you to discover this traditional craft. Overlooking the water, in an exceptional natural setting, enjoy freshly shucked oysters, prawns and whelks, accompanied by a glass of white wine or simply a squeeze of lemon. Capbreton

From Seignosse, Capbreton harbour is right next door – less than 10 minutes away! The jetty is very close by, and on calm days, from the beach you can watch the ballet of sailing boats as they sail along the Landes coastline.

This is the place to go to hire a jet ski, go sea fishing, or take a sailing trip to watch the sunset over the ocean.

One thing you absolutely mustn’t miss in Capbreton is the fish market every morning. Right on the harbour, the trawlers unload their crates of freshly caught fish, which you can buy for your lunchtime barbecue. Hake, sea bass, sea bream, baby squid… and the fisherman’s wife will even show you how to cook them!

The pier and the lighthouse are also two must-see viewpoints. By bike or on foot, you can then walk along the harbour and follow the ‘blue trail’ towards the town centre – a route dotted with information panels so you can learn all about the town and its maritime heritage.
