The pine forest

The maritime pine forest, which is everywhere in Seignosse, covers 2,500 hectares.

Here, we have the ocean, the dunes and the forest. Three living environments that coexist in harmony and create the most beautiful of settings.
In the shade of the trees, the resinous scents mingle with the salty sea air, creating a unique atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and re-energising. Let yourself be swept away by this powerful scent that you’ll remember for a long time: it exists nowhere else but in the Landes!
Our forest invites you to slow down, feel, reconnect with nature, and breathe deeply!

a living forest

to be observed

These distinctive pine trees – tall, slender and with their tops reaching high into the sky – punctuate the landscape and filter the light. They are mainly grown for timber. Did you know that pine resin is also harvested? This is known as ‘gemmage’, involving the famous traditional resin pots found at markets. But the Landes forest harbours another treasure: cork oaks produce very high-quality cork. Keep your eyes peeled as you walk; in every season, different plants bring the pine forest to life: giant fluorescent-green ferns, golden broom, bright pink heather – a veritable festival of colours.

The Seignosse Forest is a fragile and precious environment. Mostly privately owned, it is open to anyone who respects it, provided they stay on the marked paths. To look after it, please do not trample the vegetation, smoke or light fires, camp or bivouac, or leave litter behind.

Leave no trace of your visit – that’s the Seignosse Attitude!

hikes

for all walkers

Contrary to popular belief, the Landes forest is not flat, particularly around Seignosse. Behind the dunes, you’ll find rows of small dunes known as ‘tucs’. Our trails are therefore dotted with gentle inclines and descents, making for a more challenging walk. There’s plenty of choice: six trails of varying lengths offer a total of 40 km of walking, with the route marked by coloured arrows. Enjoy long walks in the shade, or your morning jog accompanied by the song of the cicadas in summer – and who knows, you might even spot a roe deer?

Our favourite walks
  • The Pink Trail (4.4 km) leads to the Casernes Nature Beach
  • The Green Trail (4.5 km) winds its way between the tucs towards the highest point of the forest
  • The Red Trail (10 km) offers magnificent views of the Étang Blanc

Fancy a bit of forest bathing?

With the Tourist Office, you can also take part in ‘nature bathing’ sessions in the forest with a guide – an experience not to be missed if you want to recharge your batteries during your holiday! During a session lasting around 1½ hours, Marie, a forest therapist, will guide you in a small group to a secluded corner of the forest for a truly sensory immersion. This reconnection with nature and its sensations is a rare experience, accessible to everyone.
