EXPLORE THE INLAND LANDES

The Landes is more than just its vast beaches and pine forest. It is a very large department, with towns and villages set back from the coast, each full of character, authenticity and vibrant traditions.

Starting from Seignosse, you can explore the Landes inland, criss-crossed by rivers: charming fortified towns, vineyards, wooded hills and pastures… A diversity of landscapes and plenty of opportunities to meet the locals, who are deeply attached to their region.

MARQUEZE Eco-Museum: The Landes of Yesteryear

For a trip back in time, visit the Marquèze Ecomuseum, about an hour’s drive from Seignosse (in the commune of Sabres). You’ll board the century-old train at Sabres station, which will take you to the heart ofan authentic ‘airial’ in the Grande Lande.

You’ll be able to admire the typical architecture of Landes-style houses and witness authentic traditional crafts. Once there, you’ll meet the local residents: the shepherd on his stilts, the miller, the spinners… as well as plenty of farm animals! It’s a genuine historical and educational re-enactment – children love it!

Extra tip: explore the airial on your own or on a guided tour (1 hour – free); we recommend setting aside the whole day to make the most of it. Don’t forget to check the opening times before setting off! You can have a picnic or enjoy a meal on site.

The DAX, the Adour and the spa town

35 km from Seignosse, discover DAX, an ancient Roman town and spa resort, known for its remarkable architecture and its soothing hot springs. As you wander through the town, you’ll come across the legendary Fontaine Chaude, with its water gushing out at 64°, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the amphitheatre, the ancient ramparts and the 1920s-style architecture of the Hôtel Le Splendid.

The Borda Museum traces the town’s historyand showcases its Gallo-Roman heritage: ruins, exhibitions and collections will delight the most curious visitors and history buffs alike!

The ultimate in relaxation: enjoy the thermal baths, open to everyone (Spa Le Splendid, Thermes de Borda, Thermes de l’Avenue).

The sightseeinghighlight: discover the town in 45 minutes on the little train (March to November) or get in touch with our colleagues at the Dax Tourist Office to enjoy a range of guided tours and a tailor-made programme! 😉

THE KIWI VALLEY and its abbeys

For lovers of charming, authentic villages and historic buildings, head to Peyrehorade and the Kiwi Valley, 35 km from Seignosse!

Sorde Abbey, situated in the heart of the village and bordered by the Gave d’Oloron, is a listed Historic Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can explore the abbey church, the monastic buildings and the abbot’s residence.
Arthous Abbey, meanwhile, isnestled amongst forests and maize fields, on the border with the Basque Country. Built in the 12th century, you can follow a historical trail featuring exhibitions, models and interactive displays for all ages.

You’ll travel through this rolling, green countryside, known as the ‘Kiwi Valley’ because ofits kiwi plantations stretching as far as the eye can see🥝

Bonus: visit the market on Wednesday or Saturday mornings in Peyrehorade, one of the region’s most renowned.

LA CHALOSSE and MONT DE MARSAN

If you’re looking to explore the heart of the Landes, the Chalosse region is a great option, about two hours from Seignosse. Here you’ll find a gentle landscape of wooded hills and slopes, well-preserved bastides and villages, and unmissable attractions such as the Musée de la Chalosse and the Musée de la Dame de Brassempouy, one of the Landes’ major archaeological sites.

Mont-de-Marsan is the departmental capital, a charming town best explored on foot, situated on the banks of the Midouze.
Saint-Sever is a renowned bastide whose architecture has been beautifully preserved
